So using creativity and this putrid economy as fuel I decided it was high time that we branch out a little. Gonzo Guide Green Bay has been going strong for several months now, and over the course of that time we have written many excellent pieces (if I may say so) ranging from a break up letter to Brett Favre, to a discussion on health care reform. But through those editorials, our focus has always remained on spotlighting some of the great small business and restaurants that have taken root in the Green Bay area.
With that in mind, I got to thinking. There is so much by the way of new media out there that local companies could use to advertise and market themselves. Yet given all of the new availabilities, it seems very few businesses in our area are taking advantage of them.
Facebook and Twitter are more than just sites for frat boys and dorm rats. In fact if you take a look at the user base of these two sites, you might be as amazed as I was. The Tweeners make up for only about 10% of the user base. Huh? Well yeah, and that leaves a much larger demographic out there full of adult users. And even in this sheeeit hole economy, adults typically have more disposable income than college and high school kids...typically.
So why does this matter? It means that 90% of the Facebook and Twitter users are adults. To understand the gravity of that number also consider Facebook increases it's user base by 200,000 new profiles per DAY! Are you f-ing kidding me? This place is an Internet marketing gold mine...if done right.
So back to my initial point of branching out the Gonzo Guide. Again our goal was to spotlight local Green Bay and Valley businesses using our blog...but what if we could do more. What if we could help these companies tap into the marketing gold mine that is Facebook and Twitter? Help me...help you.
Domino Amigo, that is exactly what we plan to do. We plan to help companies understand the social networking world, and specifically how they might use these spaces for marketing purposes. I'm sure some technogeek out in CA has already coined this, but I call it Social Adworking. An art more than a science, this capitalizes on the instant communication, and people's wanton desire to belong to a greater group by blending the social networking with marketing.
Since the attention span of most individuals now is limited to 140 characters, I will curtail my Gonzo Takes Over the World speech. What I ask is that in the free time you may or may not have, you check out the newest member of the Gonzo family...affectionately called The Gonzo Group, and let me know what you think. Please keep an objective eye when viewing this, and ponder content more than appearance as I don't do code and I'm not totally finished yet. Although it would be nice to have some feedback on site appearance too.
Thanks to all you believers out there in Gonzo Nation. Hugs and sloppy kisses all around for your continued support.
